The BioSTART Fellowship is a non-dilutive proof-of-concept program for early-career scientists and clinician-researchers in Greece translating research into viable biotech ventures.
BioSTART targets the most underserved stage of innovation: early stage productization and validation. Fellows receive funding, structured training, and hands-on mentorship to move from idea to investable opportunity.

The Fellowship is designed for:
• PhD students, postdocs, and early-career researchers

Yes. You may apply if your startup has not yet raised external funding. The Fellowship is designed to support very early-stage ideas and teams that are still in the proof-of-concept phase.
Yes. There are no restrictions based on nationality or place of residence. However, Fellowship funds must be deployed in Greece, meaning that the supported activities and project development must take place within the country.
Yes. If certain specialized services or resources are only available outside Greece, the Fellowship can support those expenses, provided they are directly related to advancing the project.
We encourage you to apply nonetheless. The application process is intentionally simple and lightweight, requiring only a short description of your idea and a brief video.
The Fellowship is structured in two phases. If selected, you will have the time, mentorship, and support in Phase A to further develop and refine your idea. At the end of Phase A, a selection process determines which teams advance to Phase B, where proof-of-concept work and funding support are provided.
No. Individuals may apply. However, selected applicants may be encouraged to build complementary teams during Phase A.
Applications should be submitted by a single lead applicant, though teams are welcome and encouraged.
BioSTART is more than a fellowship. It is a national platform bridging research, entrepreneurship, and capital to strengthen Greece’s biotech ecosystem.
